OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cornerback Keyon Martin continues to make plays in Baltimore as he prepares for another NFL season.
Martin signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and went on to earn a spot on Baltimore's 53-man roster.
Now, Martin has carved out a role at nickel cornerback and is making an impact in the Ravens' defense.
Despite becoming a contributor, Martin said he hasn't lost the mentality that helped him earn his opportunity in the first place.
"I feel like every year that you've got to come out here and make the team," Martin said. "I feel like I'm in the same position I was last year. I've got to prove myself that I deserve to be on a 53-man roster, the same way I did last year."
Martin said that mindset will continue throughout his career.
Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson has also taken notice of Martin's play and described the former Cajun as a player who brings energy and physicality to the defense.
"He's a guy that's hungry," Jackson said. "He wants to be on the field. He wants to be a difference-maker for the defense."Jackson also praised Martin's play at nickel.
"He's like a little gnat out there," Jackson said. "He's going to come up and try to make some tackles. He does what a nickel's supposed to do."
Martin and the Ravens will close the preseason against the Washington Commanders on Friday, Aug. 28.
Baltimore will then open the regular season at on the road against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 13.
