Mic'd Up preview with WSJ reporter Ethan Joyce
History Lesson: Louisiana football has never beaten App State, 0-8 all-time. And honestly, there aren't many close games in there. Last October in Lafayette, a late score was the nail as the Mountaineers beat Louisiana 17-7, then in the SBC championship App won 48-35 in the first meeting between the two to be decided by one score. It's been a one-sided affair.
Chip on the Mountain: Appalachian State has been the darling of the Sun Belt. They've won 4-straight conference titles and the conference's only two championships games, both over Louisiana. But the streak ends there. While many expected this December meeting to be a championship preview, Coastal Carolina has thrust itself into the national spotlight, and has already won the east division. On senior day will App State play with something to prove? There are two ranked Sun Belt teams, Louisiana and Coastal Carolina; that's not something App State can feel comfortable with.
Heating Up: It took all season, but Louisiana's offense is firing. The Cajuns have mauled opposing defenses in their last four games. The Cajuns are averaging better than 44 points and 500 yards over that span. The competition hasn't been stiff, but the offense is confident none the less. Louisiana believes it can, and will, win in Boone, so much so Billy Napier invited adversity when discussing the cold, and rainy weather forecast for Friday night.
