LAFAYETTE – Junior Todd Lott became the first Ragin’ Cajun selected during the 2019 MLB Draft after he was taken in the ninth round (275th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon.

With Lott’s selection, Louisiana has now had at least one player picked in the MLB Draft in every year during the Tony Robichaux era. In all, 67 players have been drafted under Robichaux.

“We are all extremely proud of Todd and everything that he has been able to accomplish,” Robichaux said. “He had a stellar junior season and was able to really elevate his game. He is a character guy that will make an immediate impact on the Cardinals organization. I cannot wait to see him fulfill one of his childhood dreams and we all wish him the best of luck in this new chapter.”

Lott had a career year at the plate as a junior, ranking second on the team with a .332 average (67-for-202) and driving in a team-best 48 runs. In league games, the junior ranked fifth amongst Sun Belt competitors in hits (45), third in RBI (36), and tied for third with his home run total (7), while leading the Ragin’ Cajuns in all three categories.

His efforts saw him garner First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the first time in his career.

In three seasons at Louisiana, the Jacksonville, Florida, native was a .296 (117-for-395) hitter, producing 73 RBI, 31 extra-base hits and a .446 slugging percentage. In that time, he made 127 appearances in the Vermilion and White, 102 of which were starts.

Lott was one of five Ragin’ Cajuns on the 2019 squad who had been drafted out of high school, having been selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 20th round (588th overall) out of high school in the 2016 MLB Draft.
