LAFAYETTE – No. 8 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball is scheduled to begin play in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. at Bobcat Softball Stadium on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos, Texas.
The Sun Belt office unveiled the official tournament schedule on Saturday following the completion of regular season play. The tournament is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, May 8-11 with the winner claiming the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Louisiana (47-4, 25-0 Sun Belt), conference champions for the 16th time in the 19-year history of regular season play and the tournament’s No. 1 seed, earned a bye from opening day action on Wednesday, May 8.
The Ragin’ Cajuns opponent for Thursday’s contest will be determined by results on Wednesday. Possible opponents include Texas State, Appalachian State and ULM.
All games of the tournament are set for exclusive coverage on ESPN+. Louisiana’s games will also air on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on the ESPN 1420 app.
The Sun Belt Tournament format combines single and double-elimination play. Two single elimination first round games on Wednesday precede the start of double elimination play between the remaining six teams.
The two teams to advance from double-elimination play will compete in a single-elimination championship game on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m.
Louisiana has claimed the SBC Tournament title 14 times in the 19-year history of the event, last claiming the championship in 2017. The Ragin’ Cajuns sport an all-time record of 58-9 in the event.
No. 8 Louisiana finished the regular season with an unblemished Sun Belt mark, extending the streak of consecutive league series won to 55 straight. The 2019 Ragin’ Cajuns became only the second team in program and conference history to finish league play undefeated, joining the 2004 Louisiana group which went 18-0.
Gerry Glasco’s squad heads into the SBC Tournament with a season-best, 24-game win streak, which began on March 22. It is tied for the second-longest streak in program history and was the second-longest active in the nation as of May 4 (trailing only Oklahoma’s 35-game run).
All purchases can be made through the Texas State Athletics Ticket office by calling 512-245-2272 or by visiting txst.com/tickets.
