Press Release

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana had no answer for Loyola Marymount’s offense, which outhit the Ragin’ Cajuns, 13-5, to claim a 7-3 victory on Sunday and clinch the weekend series at Russo Park.

Of the 13 hits given up by the Ragin’ Cajuns (6-9) in the game, five were doubles, the most two-baggers allowed by the team this season.

Senior Orynn Veillon claimed two of Louisiana’s five hits, one of which was a home run off the scoreboard in the top of the ninth inning.Brennan BreauxHayden Cantrelle and Handsome Monica added the other three hits in the contest.

Starter Austin Perrin took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. Grant Cox closed out the game, pitching 2.0 innings of one-hit, no-run ball and striking out three batters.

Loyola Marymount’s (8-7) Nick Frasso earned the win with a big day on the mound, striking out five batters and allowing one hit through 6.0 innings. Trevin Esquerra led Loyola Marymount’s offense with a 3-for-5 day at the plate and two RBI.

Similar to Saturday’s game, the Lions put two early runs on the board, scoring twice in the top of the first with the help of a two-run single. Loyola Marymount took a commanding 7-0 advantage over the fifth and sixth innings when three doubles saw five runs cross the plate over that two-inning span.

Louisiana pulled two runs back in the top of the seventh when a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kole McKinnon and an error on the Lions’ left fielder allowed Breaux and Monica to each score to make the score 7-2.

With three outs remaining and down five runs, Veillon smacked a leadoff home run off the scoreboard to trim the Loyola Marymount lead to 7-3. However, that was all the Ragin’ Cajuns could muster as the Lions went on to take the weekend series.

Louisiana continues its five-game homestand on Tuesday when it welcomes New Orleans to Russo Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. and can be streamed live at RaginCajuns.com/Watch.
