Softball may have been cut short, but that didn't stop Madelyn Link from making a statement batting over 600 behind the plate. A season that gave the leadoff hitter some college looks.
"Well, I talked to the LSUE coach, and there's a college in Florida, North West Florida, I talked to that coach too. But, home is where the heart is," said Link.
The decision came easy for the senior shortstop, knowing her biggest supporter would be near.
"My dad got diagnosed with cancer going into my junior year. He still has it, but he's doing so much better than he was," she said.
A voice that Madelyn and her teammates always hear in the stands was her dad.
"Every time he shows up, all you hear is Link. He yells Link," she said.
To make Madelyn's first year of college softball a real family affair, her former teammate and cousin awaits her at LSUE.
"With the virus and everything she got an extra year, she gets to stay, and I get to play with her," she said.
In the words of Madelyn Link, home is where the heart is.
"This is where I feel comfortable. I'm extremely excited. I feel blessed," she said.
