EUNICE — Eunice High School football coach Paul Trosclair has stepped down after 25-years, pushed out by the coronavirus.

According to the Advocate, Trosclair, who underwent cancer treatments in 2014, decided it was not safe for him to continue.

Being at higher risk to contract the virus, he had not joined the team for voluntary workouts this summer and said his health was his main focus.

“I love Eunice High School and I’m going to miss it,” Trosclair told the Advocate. “But when school starts, I just can’t see feeling comfortable walking in the crowded hallways."

After winning the 2018 3A state championship, Trosclair spoke openly about possibly retiring because of his health, but also admitted that he was rejuvenated by a young and talented team.

Offensive coordinator Andre Vige will serve as interim head coach.
