Notes: Knights going for 4th straight state title
When Lafayette Christian moved up to 2A last year, the biggest question was could they be dominant in Division III?
The answer was a resounding yes. Finishing 12-1 on the way to their 3rd straight state title.
"I feel like we proved a point that we can play against anybody," LCA senior defensive lineman Tyrell Lockett said. "It doesn't matter what division youre in, we'll play against you."
It's no surprise that again that the Knights should be one of the favorites in Division III.
LCA returning 12 starters in 2020, including 5-Star safety and Super 16 member Sage Ryan. He highlights a Knights defense that returns their entire defensive line and defensive backfield from 2019.
The motto is simple for the seniors as they try to win a 4th championship: Finish the Mission.
"It means a lot because personally, I don't want to be apart of the team that lost the first state championship," LCA Senior QB Ryan Roberts said. It's important that we continue the legacy in the program and at the school."
"They talked about it coming into the season. They want to finish the mission," LCA Head Coach Jacarde Carter said. "They've won 3 out of 4 state championships. That's going to be our ultimate goal. We want to win the district championship. But ultimately we want to get back to the state championship, we want to finish that. They want to go 4 for 4 like Wendy's."
Ryan Roberts takes over as the full time QB after seeing a decent bit of playing time behind Errol Rogers Jr. in 2019.
