Coach: Chris Edwards
Record: 5-6 (Lost in 1st Round
Notes: Raiders return 12 starters in 2020
Men lie, Women lie but numbers never lie. But, they can be deceiving.
Take Northwest. Their record in 2019 was 5-6. But, their non-district schedule was filled with 4A and 5A teams and they started 1-4.
But they finished the regular season 4-1 and only one win away from the district 5-3A championship.
"We have confidence from last year, so as seniors, we have to step up" senior wide receiver Keshaun Lazard said. "Teach the younger kids to build chemistry so we can go out with a district championship."
Northwest enters 2020 with 12 starters returning, including 7 on defense.
The Raiders will have big shoes to fill at QB, as two-time district MVP Montaze Sam has graduated. Next up is junior John Jolivette, who head coach Chris Edwards says has similar athletic skills to Sam.
In a season that will have unknowns due to COVID-19...the Raiders believe it's their team chemistry that will be an advantage.
"When we're lacking in one area we pick it up in another," Edwards said. "I would say my skill positions, but our skills can't do it without our offensive line. Our mentality is together we will. Just keeps us together because we don't put anyone on the pedestal. We keep everybody together."
"We have a lot of experience but also since a lot of played last year and (2 years ago), the chemistry is still there." senior offensive lineman Nicholas Vallair said. "It's not like we're completely restarting. We lost a few good guys but we still have a good returning group."
