Press Release

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball head coach notched his 800th career win as his Bengals used a 12-run inning to breeze past Baton Rouge CC, 15-3.  Willis has averaged more than 48 wins a season in his now 17 years as the head coach.

LSUE had every batter score in the fifth inning to pull away from the Bears.  The first ten batters reached base safely as Jack Merrifield’s two-run double put the wheels in motion for the 12-spot.  Tristan Welch, Evan Keller and Reed Babin would drive in runs with a base hit in the inning.  Welch would drive in a pair of runs on separate hits in the inning alone, finishing the night with a three-hit, three RBI outing.

The Bengals also took advantage of 13 walks by the BRCC pitching staff.

LSUE began the game with a lead-off from River Town and an errant pick-off attempt at first allowed Town to advance to third base.  The freshman would score on a wild pitch.  Tristan Welch doubled home Brooks Rushworth later in the frame to give LSUE a 2-0 lead.

A fourth inning sacrifice fly from Javier Vaz was the final run before the Bengals’ big frame.

Andrew Sheridan (W, 5-1) faced an early challenge as the Bears loaded the bases in the first inning.  Sheridan would strike out the Mitchel Lemoine and would allow just one baserunner past first base the rest of his outing.  The sophomore scattered three hits and three walks while striking out four batters.

Austin Andrishok and Jake Hammond each pitched an inning of relief for the Bengals.

LSUE and Baton Rouge CC will play the next two days in the Capital City starting with a 2:00PM game on Sunday from Pete Goldsby Field.  Fans can listen to the game on the Bayou Sports Network.?
