Ahead of his first Friday night start, the Sun Belt named Colton Schmidt it’s pitcher of the week.
Schmidt tossed a complete game Sunday, the Cajuns’ first since 2016, in a 6-1 win over Arkansas State. This season he’s 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in 49 innings. It’s his first pitcher of the week award this season, and the Cajuns second, Jack Burk earned the honor in March.
Monday, coach Tony Robichaux named Schmidt the team’s Friday starter seeking better play in weekend series. Louisiana has not won a weekend series in 2018.
