ST. MARTINVILLE, La. — An arrest has been made in connection with the 2018 fatal shooting of Malik Filer in St. Martin Parish.

According to court records, Daylon “Ko Ko” Alexander was taken into custody and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on May 22.

The St. Martinville Police Department had identified Alexander as a suspect and issued an arrest warrant for him in connection with second-degree murder back in August 2018.

Police have confirmed that Alexander has been arrested in connection with Filer's homicide.

St. Martinville Police were assisted in the case by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals.

Relatives had told KATC in 2018 that 17-year-old Filer’s mother had just dropped him off at his aunt’s house on North Vivier Street when someone ran up to him and shot him multiple times on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018.

Officers located Filer who had sustained several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Another suspect, Mernard Mitchell IV, was arrested in January 2019 by SMPD in connection with the homicide investigation.
