OPELOUSAS, La. — The Baton Rouge-based attorney representing Opelousas Junior High School Principal Dr. Monica Fabre has sent a letter to St. Landry Parish Superintendent Patrick Jenkins.
According to the letter from Jill Craft, Jenkins unilaterally placed Fabre on administrative leave pending an investigation but have failed to provide her with any information.
Fabre was placed on administrative leave on May 28 as the school board investigates accusations of altering student grades.
Fabre's attorney has been on retainer for two-and-a-half years.
In the letter, Craft writes that Jenkins deliberately leaked information about placing Fabre on leave to the media in an attempt to "besmirch and defame Dr. Fabre."
Craft states that Jenkins' personal animosity toward Fabre spans two years including a failed attempt to "wrongfully and illegally terminate her employment."
The letter formally requests that all communications regarding Fabre's employment as it relates to her being on administrative leave be directed to Craft's office, including any notifications of public meetings and executive sessions.
Jenkins told KATC in May that Fabre is on paid administrative leave following allegations that she changed grades on student report cards. Jenkins said they are looking at each students grades on a case by case basis and he will not discuss any further, citing this issue as a personnel matter.
