Opelousas Police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month.

Eddie Stagg, 25, of Opelousas, was arrested and booked on charges of Second Degree Murder and Attempted Second Degree Murder, police chief Martin Mclendon said Tuesday night.

Stagg was identified as a suspect in the shooting, which occurred on December 19. Officers responded shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the 600 block of Patsy Street in reference to a shooting complaint.

Officers observed a male victim, later identified as Darrell Wheeler Jr., sitting in the driver seat of a gray Ford Fusion with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Police were able to obtain critical evidence near the scene that placed Stagg at the crime scene. He was identified as a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained.

Stagg was located on December 29 at a location on Convent Street and escorted to the Opelousas Police Department.
