The St. Landry Parish Veteran's Memorial on Hwy 182 near Opelousas is now being monitored 24/7 by security cameras.

The cameras were installed recently at the memorial after it had been vandalized.

Pat Mason-Guillory, Project Chairman of the memorial, said that, while the cameras may not stop vandals, they may make someone think twice about harming the memorial.

"It may not stop it, but to know that they're out here, the person that did it will have second thoughts about coming out. Unless they just want to be caught, because we do have 24 hour surveillance."

The memorial has been vandalized over the past year, prompting the new security measures.
