Protests over George Floyd's death are continuing throughout Acadiana. On Saturday in Crowley, police joined demonstrators and standing in solidarity with the residents they serve.
Hundreds of protesters in Crowley gathered from all over in support of George Floyd.
Protesters began marching on opposite ends of town and eventually met up and merged into one. Symbolizing how they're stronger together.
"I don't care if you're the mayor, if you're an alderman, a council member or if you are the chief of police, we're united."
Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard says he never dealt with racism growing up but recognizes the issue, which is why he marched with protesters to show his support.
"My grandmother raised me to respect everyone just as a human being, as a child of God. To come here and to see even in 2020, things that should've been gone away with. We're all gathered here grieving together, we're angered together at the heinous acts that took place, but we're here to work together for the betterment of everybody," said Broussard.
Broussard felt is was important to come out with protesters and use this as a learning opportunity to bring the community together.
"We were here just to listen and to learn. I gave my comments as chief but officers said, 'chief we're here to listen and to learn because we want to make it better too.' That's where the difference is made, when we start working together," said Broussard.
