The National Guard is deployed in the Baton Rouge area while waiting for Barry to pass through.

The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales is serving as a shelter.

Sgt. Major Billy Myers said that currently, they likely have over 200 people at the Center, and that they will go wherever they are needed.

There are also over 100 school buses on standby to deploy if evacuations or rescues are necessary.

Myers said the Guard is ready to serve.

"We'll hunker down with our soldiers and as soon as it is safe to move about, then we will get out and do what we need to do."

While Myers is away, his family back in Eunice isn't far from his mind.

"My wife and my family...I've been in it over 30 years and they're used to it. Every time they call, we go. We're here to protect and serve. Anything to help the citizens of Louisiana."
