KATC's Justice Henderson was in downtown Lafayette Parish Saturday morning with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office to sat in on the briefing that Lt. John Mowell gave the search and rescue teams and other deputies.
LPSO has several highwater rescue vehicles on standby including a black Humvee and two other high water rescue vehicles. Those vehicles are only going to be used in case of an emergency in case somebody needs to be rescued like people, animals and stranded vehicles.
The search and rescue vehicles are loaded with rescue equipment including kayaks, rope and first aid.
The City of Lafayette has also donated a dump truck in case that is needed. They also have boats there in case those are needed.
The search and rescue team will stay in place until they are absolutely needed or until the call comes in saying that they need to deploy.
KATC has been invited to ride along with the search and rescue team and we will keep you updated throughout the day with that.
