Edwards: 'storms not to be taken lightly' Marco now a Hurricane

Governor Edwards is holding Sunday morning press briefing on the tropical systems making their way towards Louisiana.

Edwards has already issued a state of emergency for the storms and requested federal emergency declarations ahead of any potential impact.

As of 11:30 Marco has been upgraded to a hurricane. Laura remains a Tropical Storm.

He asks that residents ready themselves for any impacts that may come from these two systems.

Media briefings, according to the governor's office, will be more frequent as the storms get closer to Louisiana.

Several parishes have already declared states of emergencies for their areas. More are expected.

A Hurricane WARNING is in effect east of Morgan City. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Vermilion, Iberia and St. Mary parishes. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Lafayette, St. Martin and St. Landry Parishes. A storm surge watch is in effect from the Texas/Louisiana state line to the Alabama/Florida state line.
