Hot and humid weather will continue into the mid week with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing again this afternoon. Most areas this morning are dropping into the mid to upper 70s with 80 degree temperatures along the coastline. A few showers are noted in the offshore waters, some of those scooting toward the Cameron Parish coastline and dissipating. Additional storms may develop over Vermilion Bay around sunrise. Most of these early morning showers and storms will diminish by mid morning.

Partly cloudy skies are expected for the rest of the day. Temperatures will reach the lower 90s with heat index values around 100 degrees. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop with the daytime heating. No particular area will be more vulnerable to rains, just hit and miss type showers and storms, typical for mid June. As storms develop and dissipate, outflow boundaries will stretch outward helping to develop new storms. Most of the activity will wind down this evening as the temperatures begin to cool.

More of the same is expected for the second half of the week, although rain coverage should be more extensive as the flow returns more from the southeast. Caribbean moisture paired with Atlantic and Gulf moisture will help afternoon storms stick around. The weak disturbance in the western Caribbean doesn’t look too impressive as it rolls slowly westward in tandem with an upper level low. The National Hurricane Center still only has a 20% chance for development over the next five days. The most we can expect from this is additional rain over the weekend and early next week.
