VERMILION PARISH — The potential of SpaceX coming to Vermilion Parish has some questioning what's in store for the parish's growth.

Kathy Dyson, owner and broker at Kathy Dyson Realty, said since the SpaceX rumors started, there has been a positive trend in the real estate market.

"The way it looks, we're going to need some housing, permanent housing for our workers, also rental housing for workers, and also for the people with services, and, you know, the workers," Dyson said.

"Maurice, naturally, everybody's, that's been going on for a good while, but in Vermilion Parish, now we've seen a whole lot of houses that have been sitting on the market that have a lot of interest, and also a lot of land has been moving," she said.

While there is an interest in houses, Dyson said she is noticing more land is becoming more popular than houses, with more land being put up for sale than houses in south Abbeville, Kaplan and Gueydan.

With Governor Jeff Landry's economic development announcement on Tuesday, Dyson said she thinks the parish will benefit from a large development.

"I think what could come to be would be that's going to be wonderful for Vermilion Parish, for our economy. It's, I think it's going to be wonderful for jobs, for our young people, you know, we'll be able to get really moving," Dyson said.
