Another cool attraction to check out this weekend while in St. Martin parish for the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is the African American Museum in St. Martinville.

The museum is located in the heart of downtown St. Martinville at the Cultural Heritage Center.

This museum highlights the journey that the earliest African American slaves made as they traveled across the Atlantic and landed in South Louisiana.

Something interesting about the African American Museum is its history on the Creoles.

Creoles were the first free Black citizens and how they started a whole new social class at the time.

Lastly, right now the museum is hosting a special exhibit on Black Mardi Gras and features several amazing costumes on display.
