WASHINGTON, La. — Authorities in St. Landry Parish are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead Monday on Pile Ridge Road in the town of Washington.

According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives responded to the scene and have confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide. Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity.

However, family members at the scene identified the man as Henry Durio, who worked as a janitor at Port Barre Elementary.

Durio’s older brother, who lives just a house away, said he first realized something was wrong early Thursday morning. He told reporters that his brother typically stopped by each day before work but never showed up.

“And he always brings me a cup of coffee every morning before we go to work,” he said. “I didn’t see his truck anywhere this morning. I didn’t know he was at work.”

Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Durio’s death.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
