Pelicans star Zion Williams returned to the NBA bubble after more than a week-long break to tend to "an urgent family medical matter."
Because his leave was approved by the league, and he was tested and passed tests each day, he will be subject to a four day quarantine. The NBA announced updates to that quarantine policy that would allow the league to review and extend the length.
ESPN's Andrew Lopez reports Friday that even if Zion is given clearance by the NBA ahead of its bubble opener against the Utah Jazz on Thursday, July 30th, it doesn't mean he will, saying the team will likely take things low.
While the NBA hasn't announced how long Williamson's quarantine period, his status for the 7/30 opener could be up in the air even if he is cleared, per a source. Team will be cautious since he's been away for 8 days and has another (potential) 4 days to wait before joining team. https://t.co/st5tMWx2ot

In a statement released by the team, Zion thanked the fans for their support.
“My family and I appreciate the love and respect that everyone showed us while we dealt with a private family matter,” said Williamson. “I‘m excited to rejoin my team in Orlando and look forward to getting back on the court with my teammates after quarantine.”
