The start of the new year brings the first games of 2021 for Louisiana athletics. The Cajuns play Texas State in the first game of back-to-backs Friday.

The Louisiana men's basketball teams hosts Texas State Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Cajundome. The Cajuns (6-1) are regarded as one of the top mid-major teams this year. Senior guard Cedric Russell has scored 20+ in three-straight games to end non-conference play. The Bobcats (6-3) won their final three non-conference games. The two teams will play again Saturday at 4 p.m. as the Sun Belt moves to a back-to-back schedule this season.

In San Marcos, the Louisiana women's basketball team also plays Texas State at 4 p.m. The Cajuns (1-4) have struggled much of the season. The Cajuns 32-point win over McNeese is the lone bright spot so far. Louisiana won 19-games in 2020 and return most of that team, but have yet to show that success. Texas State (3-2) won its final two before conference play. Last season the Cajuns won both match-ups with Texas State.
