LAFAYETTE — The Sun Belt, which initially said it was pausing the spring sports season, will now cancel all games, practices and events.

“In support of actions taken at both the national level and by the Sun Belt Conference today, all team activities for Ragin' Cajuns Athletics have been suspended for the remainder of the spring term. Besides Louisiana's spring sports, that also includes the cancellation of the football program's pro day and annual spring game. The Department of Athletics and University are assessing the evolving COVID-19 situation with the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans and the local community at the forefront of all decision-making," Dr. Bryan Maggard said in a statement released Monday.

Initially, the Sun Belt suspended the spring sports calendar in the wake of the NCAA's cancellation of spring championships. Speaking last Friday, Dr. Maggard wouldn't rule out the possibility that teams would finished the season and even play the Sun Belt Championships.

But Monday, In a Mic'd Up interview, Dr. Maggard expressed new doubts to KATC. Maggard said the conference faced a number of obstacles simply related to the NCAA granting eligibility relief to senior athlete and the continual spread of COVID-19.
