LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – After a big performance in Louisiana’s thrilling 31-30 victory over ULM on Saturday, senior linebacker Jacques Boudreaux has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Boudreaux has now won two weekly awards this season, the first coming on Sept. 30 following a big performance at Georgia Southern when he notched 12 tackles in Louisiana's 37-24 victory. The senior is the first Ragin’ Cajun to earn two Player of the Week honors in the same season since Daniel Cadona in 2014.
A native of New Orleans, Boudreaux led all Louisiana defenders in the game against ULM with a career-high-matching 12 tackles, 0.5 sack and a huge pass break up in the late stages of the game.
The double-digit effort was Boudreaux’s fifth of the season, making him the first Ragin’ Cajun to have five, double-digit tackle performances in the same season since Justin Anderson did so in 2013.
Boudreaux currently leads the entire squad with 89 tackles on the year, four tackles shy of his total from a season ago. He has also tallied 2.0 TFL, four pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and a forced fumble during his stellar senior campaign.
For the second-straight season, Louisiana will travel to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State in the 2019 Sun Belt Championship Game. Kickoff from Kidd Brewer Stadium is slated for 11 a.m. and will be nationally televised on ESPN. More information on the game, including ticket information, can be found here [sunbeltsports.org].
