LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – For the second time this season, senior quarterback Levi Lewis has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 List, the award’s foundation announced on Monday morning.
Lewis, a Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List member, first won the award following the team’s upset win over then No. 23 Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
The senior quarterback was absolutely phenomenal in Louisiana’s dominant win over ULM, accounting for five total touchdowns in the victory. Through the air, Lewis went 18-for-25 for 147 yards and three touchdowns, passing Terrance Broadway for second place all-time for career passing scores with 51.
On the ground, he carried the ball five times for 55 yards and two touchdowns, the first time in his career he has rushed for two scores in a single game and the first multi-rushing touchdown performance by a Louisiana quarterback since Jordan Davis did so against Ole Miss on Nov. 11, 2017.
With his career-high five touchdowns against the Warhawks, Lewis became one of five Ragin’ Cajuns in the last 20 years to account for five touchdowns in a single game and the team’s first since Andre Nunez did so against New Mexico State on Oct. 13, 2018.
No. 20 Louisiana returns to action on Friday, Dec. 4, when it travels to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State in a rematch of the last two Sun Belt Conference Championship Games. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on ESPN.
