LAFAYETTE — Sophomore Bobby Lada recorded three hits and drove in two runs in the Cajuns 5-3 win over Rice Saturday.
Lada gave the Cajuns a 1-0 lead in the first. Louisiana scored one in the second on a wild pitch, opening up a 2-0 lead for starter David Christie.
The St. Thomas More product allowed three runs on two hits and walked three batters. Peyton Havard relieved Christie with two on in the fourth, Cajuns leading 2-1. After giving up a single that tied the game at 2, Owls catcher Will Karp singled with two runners on. The go-ahead run scored but left fielder Connor Kimple threw Justin Long out at the plate, limiting the damage.
The Cajuns retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame. Another Lada hit tied the game, before Nick Hagadorn doubled-in the go-ahead run. CJ Willis would score on a wild pitch capping off a three-run fourth.
Louisiana's bullpen shut down Rice from there. Havard, Jason Nelson (W, 1-0,) Conor Angel, and Spencer Arrighetti (S,1) combined to strike out 9 batters, surrendering no runs on two hits.
The Cajuns will go for the series sweep Sunday; first pitch is 1:00 p.m.
