Louisiana football will have to wait two weeks to play Coastal Carolina, and for fans it'll feel like two months.

In a historic season in the Sun Belt, this year's conference championship is likely to pit two top-20 teams. Louisiana ranks 17th, while Coastal sits in 11th in the latest AP Poll.

The Chanticleers come off the Historic win over, then, 8th ranked BYU. Their 11th place ranking is the highest a Sun Belt team has ever been.

"I've got a lot of respect for Jamey (Chadwell) and what he's been able to do. He's got a good football team and they beat a good football team," said Louisiana head coach Billy Napier. "It's great see a team in our league accomplish a significant thing and be undefeated and ranked. It makes for a great conference championship game."

Stock has never been higher in the conference. Not only are two programs ranked inside the top-20, Appalachian State, a perennial power in the conference is 7-3, with loses to Louisiana (9-1) Coastal Carolina (10-0) and Marshall (7-1.) All three teams the Mountaineers lost to currently rank in the top-25.

Winner of the Sun Belt Championship will hold an outside chance at a New Year's Six Bowl, though Coastal stands the best shot if it beats both Louisiana, and Troy, who it plays this Saturday.
