Grueling test awaits Cajuns this week

LAFAYETTE — Louisiana softball may be in the midst of its toughest regular season week in school history. The Cajuns face no. 3 Texas in a double-header Tuesday, before traveling to Gainsville to play the no. 7 Florida for a weekend series.

If all goes as scheduled, Louisiana will have ten games against top-10 teams this time next week.

Texas, 15-1, suffered its first loss of the year against Duke on Saturday. Texas is 1-0 against top-25 teams this year, that win coming in an 11-0 blowout of no. 12 Tennessee. Ironically, North Texas, the team who beat Louisiana early this year took the Volunteers to extras. Louisiana's double header in Austin begins at 4:30 Tuesday, and airs on the Longhorn Sports Network.

When the dust settles in Austin, Louisiana travels to Gainsville to play Florida. The 16-2 Gators dropping two games to top-25 opponents this year, Michigan and UCLA. Florida will not play a midweek game before taking on Louisiana for a three-game homestand beginning Friday. Those three games will all stream on SECN+.

Louisiana is 2-2 this year against top-25 teams. The Cajuns split their series with LSU a week ago, and most recently split match-ups with Oklahoma State. Both the Tigers and Cowgirls are top-10 teams in the latest college softball polls.
