North Vermilion standout Hayden Durke will start for Louisiana baseball in Friday's season opener against Tulane.
Durke, who'd likely be playing pro baseball if not for the coronavirus pandemic, is considered one of the top freshmen in the Sun Belt. Durke's fastball was clocked in the mid-90's this summer.
"He's special," said head coach Matt Degg. "I'm proud of the fact that he's from here in Abbeville. I love home boys, if you will. I love Lafayette kids, Acadiana kids because it means something different to them, there is a lot of pride involved."
Durke, Conor Angel, and Carter Robinson will start this weekend in that order. The Cajuns open the season Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday's game is also slated for 2:00 p.m., while Sunday's game will be at 1:00 p.m. The entire weekend series will stream on ESPN+, you can hear games on KPEL 96.5 FM.
