Deggs lands 11 in first recruiting class

LAFAYETTE — New Cajuns baseball coach Matt Deggs lands 11 in his first recruiting class, including two from Acadiana.

Monday, before the non-football signing window opened, New Iberia pitcher Chipper Menard (Because there is no better baseball name) committed to the Cajuns. Two days later Menard was joined by North Vermilion standout Hayden Durke. Durke is a classic power pitcher ranked as the number one prospect in the state according to Perfectgame.com.

Durke and Menard are two of three from Louisiana in this class, which has a heavy Texas lean. Seven players in this class are from the Lone Star State. Three players in this class are JUCO transfers.
