LAFAYETTE (PRESS RELEASE) — Louisiana Football lineman Robert Hunt was the latest Ragin' Cajun to receive national recognition ahead of the 2019 season, claiming a spot on the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced on Tuesday.
Hunt was one of 83 FBS players to see their name on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which annually recognizes the top interior lineman. The redshirt senior is the fourth Ragin' Cajun named to a watch list this year, joining Trey Ragas (Doak Walker Award), Elijah Mitchell (Doak Walker Award) and Johnny Lumpkin (Mackey Award).
A native of Burkeville, Texas, Hunt started at right tackle in all 14 games for Louisiana in 2018 and helped pave the way for Louisiana's ground game which produced over 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also helped protect quarterbacks Andre Nunez and Levi Lewis, who combined to throw for over 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns.
This marks the second time that Hunt has earned preseason recognition after picking up a spot on the Sun Belt's Preseason All-Conference First Team.
