Louisiana athletics confirms a 5-year extension for athletic director Bryan Maggard. Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated was the first to break the news.
Maggard was hired in 2017. His contract extends through 2025 now.
“I am extremely humbled and honored to receive this extension and vote of confidence from President Savoie,” Maggard said in a statement released by the university. “Although we have experienced a number of positive achievements to date, we have much more to accomplish. Both Kerry and I are very excited to remain a part of the amazing Cajun culture that has embraced us so warmly since arriving in 2017.”
As athletic director Maggard has hired two of the programs rising coaching stars, football coach Billy Napier and softball's Gerry Glasco. Napier led the football team (11-3) to its winningest season in program history this year. Napier is among the hottest young names in coaching and has seen his contract reworked multiple times in his short stint. Meanwhile Glasco piloted the Cajus to a 55-win season in his first year. UL softball was expected to be among the favorites to advance to the college world series this year before the caronavirus derailed the season.
“Dr. Maggard has made important improvements and advancements with Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics during his time on campus,” President Savoie said in a statement. “This contract extension reflects that, and we are all excited to see our sports programs maintain this momentum. Our student-athletes, staff and community will continue to benefit from the department’s commitment to academic achievement and athletic excellence in the years to come under his leadership.”
