LAFAYETTE — Louisiana football adds 16 on the first day of the early signing period, including two local standouts.

Billy Napier adds Catholic High quarterback Trey Amos as a defensive back, and Lafayette Christian quarterback Errol Rogers Jr. as a wide receiver.

Amos, a state track champion, is a gifted athlete. Napier noted Wednesday he believed he flew under the radar. Amos, Rogers and East Feliciana product Caleb Anderson all played quarterback in 2019.

"Just think like a High School coach, who do you put at quarterback? You put a guy you trust in the modern spread you often put your best athlete back there," Napier said Wednesday. "You know a guy that has to run your communication. So you're getting one of the better, more mature, trustworthy and accountable guys."

The Cajuns' entire 16-man class resides in Louisiana, or a gulf state (8 from LA, 5 from TX, 2 from MS, and 1 from AL)

"It's a product of the way we're evaluating. We divide about 6-and-a-half=-hours away and all junior colleges, among eight evaluates," Napier said. "I think because of the exposures we have, we have the opportunity to see these guys multiple times. I remember this time last year we watch Trey Amos in a basketball game, that's when we decided we were going to offer him a a scholarship. I think because they're closer by you get more opportunities to evaluate, and recruit them as well, they get here more often.

Napier left the door open Wednesday to add a couple more guys, either in this period or in February. He also opened the door for transfers, likening the transfer process to NFL free agency.
