LAFAYETTE (KATC) For the third time in 2019 Louisiana softball sweeps the Sun Belt’s weekly player and pitcher of the week awards.
Summer Ellyson earned pitcher of the week honors for the fifth time this season. Ellyson didn’t allow a run, striking out 14 batters in last weekend’s sweep at Appalachian State. Ellyson leads the Sun Belt in about every major statistical category including ERA (1.11) wins (24) and strikeouts (213.)
Junior shortstop Alissa Dalton earned second player of the week award by hitting .615 last week. She drove in six runs during the three-game sweep of the Mountaineers. Her .427 batting average leads the Sun Belt Conference.
This is the third time Louisiana has swept the weekly awards doing the same for the March 16 awards, as well the first awards on February 12.
