LAFAYETTE (Press Release) – A two-run shot off the bat of Handsome Monica gave Louisiana a 2-1 lead in the first, but it was unable to build on that advantage as the Ragin’ Cajuns fell to Louisiana Tech, 11-3, on Tuesday.

The home run was Monica’s team-leading ninth dinger of the season, the most by a Ragin’ Cajun since Steven Sensley hit 11 during the 2017 season. The senior finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Monica’s hit total was matched by Brennan Breaux, who finished the night 2-for-3 with an RBI single.

Freshman Logan Savoy (1-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.

After giving up a solo shot in the top of the opening frame, Louisiana (17-18, 6-6) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the first when Monica sent a 1-1 pitch sailing over the outfield wall. That lead did not last long, though, as a Bulldog single knotted things up at 2-2 in the second.

Louisiana Tech (22-10, 8-4) broke things open in the top of the fifth inning when it scored four runs on three hits to take a 6-2 advantage.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were able to tack on a run in the bottom of the fifth via a Breaux single and had a great opportunity in the seventh to cut into the lead with runners on the corners, but they were unable to do so before Louisiana Tech went on to score five more runs in the final two frames to take the 11-3 victory.

Louisiana returns to action on Wednesday night when it welcomes another in-state foe in McNeese State to Russo Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will be carried live on ESPN+ and Cox Sports Television.
