LAFAYETTE (KATC) – DBU may be a few miles east in Baton Rouge, but Louisiana is making a name for producing NFL caliber defensive backs.

During Wednesday’s Pro Day safety Corey Turner was the center of attention for the scouts in attendance, but his teammate Jam Williams got everyone talking.

Williams was timed running the 40-yard-dash at 4.48 seconds on at least one stopwatch. Williams played baseball and football for the Cajuns before focusing on football alone as a senior.

As for Turner, he played 45 games as a Cajun and is credited for more than 150 tackles. He’s hoping to join a list of seven former Louisiana defensive backs to be drafted. Last year both Simeon Thomas and Tracy Walker heard their names called during the draft.

Turner figures to be a free agent signing, a chance is all he’s looking for.

“I talked to my agent after, he said everything was looking good. I put up some good numbers. I’m just hoping for an opportunity. I think I can be a good teammate on and off the field. My character speaks a lot,” Turner said.

Other notable Cajuns to workout for scouts included quarterback Andrew Nunez, wide receiver Ryheem Malone and punter Kyle Pfau.
