LAFAYETTE (Press Release) Third-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball wraps up its season-opening, 11-game homestand hosting the 33rd Annual Louisiana Classic starting on Friday at Lamson Park.

No. 13 Louisiana welcomes Austin Peay, Jackson State and Stephen F. Austin for the tournament which runs through Sunday. The teams will utilize a round robin format, starting Friday at 11am, before bracket play gets underway Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Ragin’ Cajuns begin tournament play on Friday facing Jackson State at 4 p.m. and Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. For a full schedule visit Tournament Central at RaginCajuns.com/33rdLaClassics.

Louisiana opened the 2019 season, the second campaign under Gerry Glasco’s guidance, last weekend with dominant pitching performances and powerful swings in outscoring foes 65-4 in the Ragin’ Cajuns Classic at Lamson Park.

That performance resulted in a jump in the national polls, with the Ragin’ Cajuns vaulting to No. 13 in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 rankings.

Louisiana seeks to build upon its offensive explosion from Opening Weekend in which seven different players contributed at least one home run, led by three from Lexie Comeaux and two from Raina O’Neal, as the next two weekends provide stern tests at Baylor and Oklahoma.

Summer Ellyson (four victories) and Kandra Lamb (two no-hitters) starred in the pitching circle last weekend. The other members of the pitching staff are expected to see work in the circle this weekend.
