LAFAYETTE (KATC) — More than 600 days after his last game, Gunner Leger will take the mound Friday in the Cajuns season opener against Texas.

The senior pitcher missed all of 2018 after having both elbow and knee surgery.

As a junior Leger went 10-2 with a 1.97 ERA.

The Cajuns open the season Friday at home against Texas, the 23rd ranked team in the nation.

“We always worry about us. It’s more about us than anything,” said head coach Tony Robichaux. “On the other hand, we do respect our opponent. We do know taking on someone like that early in the year will not be easy. It’s gonna be good.”
