LAFAYETTE (KATC) — Louisiana softball is still emotional following the loss of assistant coach Geri Ann Glasco.

“Every day is a new struggle. Everyone knows that this season will be dedicated to her,” said senior catcher Lexie Comeaux.

A week after taking a bus to Illinois to mourn Glasco’s loss, Louisiana prepare for it’s season opener at home against Fordham.

“Nobody really understands. Like we can all sit here and talk about the pain and all that but nobody understands that except the people that do it with you for four hours a day. The connection you build is indescribable,” added all-conference shortstop Alissa Dalton.

Chemistry is important, but Louisiana is loaded with talent too. The 19th ranked Cajuns boast the Sun Belt preseason pitcher and hitter of the year in Summer Ellyson and Dalton. Beyond Dalton, UL is expecting to add power to their lineup after hitting only 23 homers in 2018.

The bigger question is who follows up Ellyson in the circle in game two? The Cajuns have their options with returning pitchers Carrie Boswell, Alison Deville and Casey Dixon. Louisiana also added Kendra Lamb this offseason.

If the Ladie can put it together a trip to Oklahoma City is not out of the question.

“The potential is huge,” said Comeaux. “Obviously our eyes are on Oklahoma. This year feels really really possible. That’s what we all want.”
