Three Pelicans test positive, GM Griffin confirms

METAIRIE — Pelicans general manager David Griffin confirms that three players have tested positive for the coronavirus, but none have have been named publicly.

"The league had a system in place that was designed to catch these cases. The system worked, and we're going to deal with it the best we can moving forward," Griffin said during a media conference Tuesday.

The NBA said last week that 16 of the more than 300 players it tested had test positive. Griffin said the Pelicans' three are included in that figure.

The Pelicans will travel to Orlando to begin preparation for the season's re-start on July 30th. New Orleans plays the Utah Jazz. Head Coach Alvin Gentry adding today that he plans to be with the the team, despite being 65-years-old and at a greater chance to contract the virus.

"My plan right now is to be with the team in Orlando, and I'm looking forward to it," he said.
