The Sun Belt Conference announced on Tuesday, August 4, that it will begin its football season over the Labor Day weekend.
The decision was made after discussions with conference Presidents, Chancellors, athletic directors, SBC COVID-19 Advisory Panel and medical directors.
The Conference says they believe that the Labor Day weekend start will allow for a "healthy integration of the entire campus community for each Sun Belt member."
The season will be comprised of an 8-conference game schedule with options to add as many as four non-conference opponents beginning with Week Zero, officials said.
A football championship game will be hosted on December 5 between the East Division and West Division champions. That date may be adjusted if necessary.
Health trends, according to the conference, will be monitored to ensure the safe return to activities and athletics.
The SBC says that they will provide updates on the league’s activities as the impact of the pandemic continues to evolve.
