METAIRIE (KATC) -Saints quarterback Drew Brees was back in action at the 2nd day of Saints minicamp.

Brees was away from the team due to his civil trial against Vahid Moradi, the jeweler that he accused of fraud. Brees missed one set of organized team activities, and day one of minicamp while in California for the trial.

His absence meant more first team repetitions for backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The six year pro had opportunities to start for other teams, but chose to stay in New Orleans in hopes for a long term impact.

“You start with the coaching staff. Then you add a guy like Drew who’s played a ton of football. This is an opportunity for me to gain so much knowledge, as a football player, that face so many ups and downs,” he said

“Generally you expect for their to be drop off. Loss of a leadership standpoint. I feel like the last practices have gone really well,” said third string quarterback and team specialist Taysom Hill. “I think Teddy’s done a good job of stepping in that huddle and leading it. Guys have responded.”

Ted Ginn even added that he hates even calling Bridgewater a backup because of how good he is. But it’s good to gel with him, see what he’s got and even see what the future can look like.
