RICHMOND, VA — VCU upsets no. 23 LSU in Will Wade's return to VCU, where he coached eight seasons.

The Rams hit key free throws down the stretch hanging on to beat the Tigers 84-82. LSU used a 9-2 run in a out a minute to tie the game at 80 with less than a minute to play, but missed shots and a turnover in the finals seconds kept the Tigers from completing the comeback. LSU turned the ball over 26 times. Skylar Mays led all players with 23 points.

Wade spent 2009-2013 as an assistant at VCU, and was the head coach from 2015-2017. Now VCU head coach Mike Rhoades was an assistant alongside Wade in the LSU coach's first stint in Richmond, VA.
