Two former LSU athletes die of COVID-19

BATON ROUGE, La. — Two former LSU athletes, Orlando McDaniel and Pearson Jordan, have passed away this weekend due to the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to a report from our media partner the Advocate, ex-LSU two-sport star Orlando McDaniel, 59, died Friday night.

“Orlando was a tireless worker for the youth in his area of (Dallas-Fort Worth) ,” LSU track coach Dennis Shaver told the newspaper. “His youth North Texas Cheetahs Track Club, year after year, developed many of the great athletes competing for universities throughout the United States.”

Shaver added that McDaniel, who starred at LSU from 1978-81, had recently traveled to Washington, D.C., and fell ill after returning home.

The Advocate is also reporting that ex-Tiger sprinter Pearson Jordan has also died of COVID-19.

Jordan competed for the Tigers from 1976-79 and was part on an NCAA 4x400 champion relay team in 1979.
