BATON ROUGE — Ja'Maar Chase earned LSU's seventh SEC offensive player of the week award, doubling down on the day by being named Biletnikoff award semifinalist.
Chase and teammate Justin Jefferson are semifinalists for the award that names the nation's best wide reciter. This year the two wide receivers have shined in LSU's new-look offense. Chase has more than 1,100 yards receiving, and 13 touchdowns. (He caught 23 passes, for 313 yards and 3 TDs in 2018) while Jefferson has caught 71 passes for more than 1,000 yards and 11 TDs. (He caught 54 passes for 875 yards and 6 TDs in 2018.)
Ed Orgeron laughing Monday saying the move to the spread offense was clearly the right call.
"It makes the decision to go to the spread the right one, I guarantee you that," he said. "Goes to show the work that they did this summer, catching 10,000 balls, the competitive nature they had. I think the best thing I can say about this group is their character and their closeness, they pull for each other."
LSU hosts Arkansas Saturday with a chance to win the SEC West division title.
