Jaden Hill's career spans just six outings, but the highly-touted junior is considered one of the top pitchers in the SEC.

Hill has allowed just 2 runs in 21.2 career innings, he's struck out 28 batters. His career has been short, but explosive and Paul Mainieri says he's planning to go with the junior at the top of his weekend rotation.

"What's good for our team, and what's best for him and his career is to let him be a starting pitcher and develop. (He has) everything it takes to be a starting pitcher. I think his future will be bright in professional baseball," said the longtime LSU head coach.

Hill's freshman campaign was short due to a collarbone injury. He pitched out of the bullpen last year where he didn't allow a run in 11.2 innings. Mainieri says there are no plans to use him in relief this time around.

"I hope we don't need a Jaden Hill in the bullpen and that he can be a starting pitcher," he said. "And if he stays in the rotation that means he's pitching well and that would be the best thing for us."

LSU opens the year Saturday against Air Force. Notre Dame backed out of the weekend event at LSU so the Tigers will play Air Force on both Saturday and Sunday, before facing Louisiana Tech on Monday.
