LSU Cornerback Derek Singley, Jr. out for season opener due to sudden illness

LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was hospitalized Friday night after becoming suddenly ill, and it's unclear whether he will play in Saturday's season opener against Mississippi State.

Stingley became suddenly ill Friday night and was taken to an area hospital, LSU said in a statement.

His condition is not COVID-19 related, and he is expected to be discharged soon. Stingley will return to activity after a full evaluation by the team's medical staff.

According to The Advocate, Singley will not play in Saturday's game.

The full statement reads:

Derek Stingley Jr. became acutely ill last night and was evaluated overnight in the hospital. His condition is not COVID-19 related and he is expected to be discharged soon.

He will return to activity after full evaluation by the medical team.

The Tigers take on the Bulldogs at 2:30 in Tiger Stadium.
